What Others Have Wondered
Frequently Asked Questions
What are sessions like?
Our first session will be spent getting to know one another, discussing what’s led you to therapy, and giving you an opportunity to ask me questions. From there, we’ll establish your designated day and time to meet weekly. Sessions are a combination of conversation and intervention as we talk about the events in your life (both currently and in the past) to uncover the patterns and ways of being that serve you well sometimes and other times not so much.
We'll talk lot about feelings and ways to adjust your thinking and behaviors. I'll offer you tools for you use in your day-to-day life and offer referrals should you need support from other disciplines, such as psychiatry, primary care, OBGYN, etc. Most of all, I will hold space for you to practice being who you want to be.
How long do I need to be in counseling?
I meet with clients weekly and each session lasts for 55 minutes. This schedule maximizes the impact of the work and really allows us to make legitimate progress toward your goals. The total duration is up to you - some people come for a handful of sessions and feel equipped to move on. Others prefer to do deeper work and commit to longer periods of time.
Is counseling hard?
Yes, it can be (you wanted an honest answer, right?). Sitting with painful thoughts and emotions and uncovering new things about ourselves can be challenging. But that’s exactly what I’m trained to support you in, and processing these things allows you to break through the barriers you currently feel so constrained by. Things might get uncomfortable sometimes, and I’m here to sit in that right alongside you.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, which means that I do not bill insurance. I am happy to offer you the necessary paperwork (superbill) to file with your insurance provider for possible partial or full reimbursement.
Please know that not all insurance plans offer reimbursement and that some may have a deductible or an allowable amount. It is best to call the number on the back of your insurance card and speak to a representative about what your specific benefits are. I'm happy to talk this through with you at any time.
How much does it cost?
I charge $300 for 55 minute sessions.
What if my schedule changes?
Life happens, and I know the nature of your work means your calendar can be unpredictable. I am happy to reschedule you the week before, during or after your designated appointment time. My attendance policy is detailed in your intake paperwork and I'm always happy to answer any questions you may have.
